How to Get the Transcript of a TikTok Video
Copy the link of a public TikTok, paste it into TikTok to Text and press Get transcript. The speech appears as text with a timestamp on every line, ready to copy or download as a TXT file. No account and no app to install. The steps below cover each part and what to do when a link doesn't work.
What you need
- A public TikTok video that is up to 60 minutes long.
- The video link, copied from the TikTok app or from the address bar of your browser.
- Any modern browser on a phone or a computer.
Step 1: Copy the TikTok link
In the TikTok app
Open the video, tap Share and then Copy link. The link usually looks like vm.tiktok.com/… or tiktok.com/@name/video/…. Both work.
In a browser
Open the video on tiktok.com and copy the address from the address bar. You can paste the full address, including anything after a question mark.
Step 2: Paste it and pick the language
Open TikTok to Text and paste the link. Leave the language on auto-detect, or choose the spoken language if you know it. Short clips give automatic detection very little to go on, so choosing the language usually improves accuracy. Tick the box confirming the video is public and that you have the right to transcribe it.
Step 3: Get the transcript
Press Get transcript. Our server fetches only the audio, turns it into text and deletes the audio. Most short TikToks are ready in well under a minute; a ten-minute video takes longer. The transcript opens in an editor, one line per sentence.
Step 4: Fix and export the text
Read through the transcript and correct anything misheard. The words most likely to need a fix are:
- names of people, brands and products;
- slang, hashtags and made-up words;
- numbers and prices;
- lines spoken over loud music or sound effects.
Then press Copy text to paste it into a document, or Download TXT to save it. Turn on timestamps if you want each line to start with its time, which helps when you quote the video.
Why use a transcript tool instead of TikTok's captions?
Many TikToks show captions on screen, but that text is part of the video: you can't select it, search it or copy it. A transcript gives you real text that you can edit, search, translate or reuse. It also works for videos with no captions at all.
Troubleshooting
The tool says the video is private or unavailable
Only public videos can be read. If the video was removed, is limited to certain viewers or needs a login, the link can't be processed.
The link isn't recognized
Make sure you copied the whole link and that it points to a single video, not to a profile, a hashtag page or a sound. If you only have a profile link, open the video you want first and copy its own link.
The video is longer than 60 minutes
Longer videos aren't supported through a link. If you made the video, upload the file to Video to Text instead, which transcribes it in your browser.
The text is mostly wrong
That usually means loud music over the voice, several people talking at once, or the wrong language. Pick the spoken language and try again, then edit what remains.
It worked yesterday but not now
TikTok sometimes limits automated requests. Wait a few minutes and try again. If the video is yours, saving it and using the file upload is the most reliable route.
Use transcripts responsibly
Transcribe videos you made or have permission to use, and respect TikTok's terms and the creator's rights if you republish any of the text. Want to make timed captions for your own video? Try the Subtitle Generator. Working with Reels? See how to transcribe an Instagram Reel.
